Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a concern that requires preventive efforts through educational and psychosocial approaches in school settings. This community service program aimed to identify students’ initial psychosocial conditions using the Pediatric Symptom Checklist-17 (PSC-17) and provide psychological education to prevent risky adolescent behaviors. The program was conducted at SMKS Islam Bina Khalifah Bangsa and involved 27 students aged 15–18 years. The activities consisted of psychosocial screening using the PSC-17, educational presentations, group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and observation. Data were analyzed descriptively based on screening scores and categories. The results indicated that 11 students (40.74%) met at least one positive screening criterion. The internalizing subscale was the most prominent, involving 11 students (40.74%), followed by the attention subscale with 3 students (11.11%). No students scored above the cutoff on the externalizing subscale. Furthermore, 4 students (14.81%) obtained a total score of ≥15. The psychological education sessions provided students with information about risky behaviors, self-control, and the social consequences of their actions. These findings may serve as preliminary information for the school to develop sustainable psychosocial support and juvenile delinquency prevention programs. The PSC-17 is a screening instrument rather than a clinical diagnostic tool; therefore, students with positive screening results require appropriate follow-up based on their individual needs.
