Abstract

Education about nutrition should be started since children enter primary education to help them understand and from habit of choosing healthier and more balanced foods. This community service activity was carried out on August 4, 2026 at SD Negeri 04 South Metro, involving 80 class II students as the main target. The purpose of this activity is to increase students’ understanding of nutritious food, types of food, as well as the implementation of the concept of “Isi Piringku” by using learning media that is in accordance with the characteristics of school-age children. This activity adopts a Service Learning (SL) approach that combines community service with the process of learning and reflection. Education is conveyed through material presentation using PowerPoint, singing, ice breaking, and the board game “Isi Piringku” which functions as a game-based learning tool. The board game is specially designed to combine the visualization of food portions on one plate, with the activity to recognize, separate, and group the types of food according to the categories on the concept of ‘My Plate Contents”. The implementation of the game is carried out in groups so that students can interact, discuss, and practice the material that has been given. Evaluation is carried out through observation of student activity and questions and answers after the activity is over, observation result show that students are actively involved in activities, can mention examples of nutritious foods, recognize food groups, and realize the importance of variation and balanced in food consumption. This activity shows that the use of game media can be a good choice for nutrition education according to the way children learn in lower grades. However, the evaluation that has been carried out has not used pre-test and post-test instruments, and the activities are only held in one meeting session, so that quantitative knowledge changes and long-term eating behaviour changes cannot be measured.
